Nighthawks Fly Past Wildcats

HOLYOKE, Mass.- In the New England Collegiate Conference  (NECC) opener the Nighthawks of Newbury defeated host Bay Path College 3-0 at the Maguire Center at Elms College. The game scores were 25-8, 25-8 and 25-7.

Newbury was led by a duo of middle hitters junior Lauren Watson (Denver, Co.) and freshman Courtney Banks (Corona, Calif.) both hitting over .500 for the day. Watson had six kills for a .545 attack percentage, while Banks had the match high nine kills swinging for a .533 percentage. Clark added four aces and two digs.

The Wildcats' sophomore middle hitter Gladys Reed (Hamden, Conn.) finished with five kills hitting .200 on the match leading her team. Junior middle hitter Elizabeth Haylette (Terryville, Conn.) led her team with seven digs and added four kills.

The Nighthawks Libero junior Meghan McDermott (Hampton, N.H.) topped all players with nine digs.

Bay Path falls to 1-13 overall and 0-1 in conference play, Newbury advances to 8-10 overall and 1-0 in the NECC.
