Wildcats Fall to Mountaineers in NECC Women’s Volleyball Action

HOLYOKE, Mass.-  Despite a .417 attack percentage from sophomore middle hitter Elizabeth Haylette (Terryville, Conn.) against top ranked  New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) opponent Southern Vermont, the Wildcats fell 3-0 with the game scores 25-21, 25-14 and 25-12. Bay Path managed to stick with the Mountaineers for the first 10-12 points flip-flopping in the second and third games and was leading Southern Vermont until the 20th point of the first game. Unfortunately for the Wildcats, Southern Vermont managed to pull ahead late in each of the three games for the win.

Southern Vermont was led by senior rightside hitter/setter Carrie Baltazar (Whittier, Calif.) and junior outsidehitter/setter Jessica Delgado (Los Angeles, Calif.).  Baltazar finished with a .353 hitting percentage tallying nine kills and added 12 assists and ten digs;  one kill shy of a triple double. Delgado notched a game high 10 kills while adding a team high 15 digs.  She had a .310 attack percentage.  The senior Libero Vanessa Ruelas (Paramount, Calif.) pitched in 10 digs.

Bay Path's Haylette finished with five kills, ten digs, one block assist and block solo. Senior outside hitter Kate Bartels (Dalton, Mass.) led the Wildcats with six kills. Junior Libero Kacie Bayreuther (East Lyme, Conn.) notched a game high 28 digs.  Freshman setter Aaliyah Gordon (Springfield, Mass.) came away with a double double with 13 assists and ten digs.

Despite the loss Bay Path finished with 59 digs to Southern Vermont's 49 digs.

Southern Vermont advances to 6-6 on the season and 3-0 in conference play. Bay Path is now 1-15 and 0-3 in the NECC.
