Wildcats drop match 3-0 to Anna Maria College in volleyball action

ANNA MARIA EDGES WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL, 3-0

 Immediate release:

The Bay Path University women’s volleyball squad fell to visiting Anna Maria College, 3-0, in a non-conference clash at First Baptist Gym on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Wildcats slide to 2-7 on the season, while the AMCATS improved to 2-6 overall.

The first set of the contest was tightly contested, where Bay Path held an early 11-6 lead. Anna Maria played catch up throughout the set, eventually pulling even at 16-16. The WIldcats kept the AMCATS at bay and were on the brink of a first set win, 24-22, until Anna Maria tallied four straight points to capture the 26-24 win. The AMCATS controlled play in the second set and never trailed in the frame, en route to the 25-14 win. The final set was another back-and-forth battle, with no more than three points separating the squads throughout the set. Bay Path led early in the set, but Anna Maria kept close and took the lead midway through. Bay Path evened the tilt three times down the stretch, but Anna Maria was able to hold on to the 25-23 win and three set sweep.

The WIldcats attack was paced by a match-high 16 kills from senior Lydia Clifford (Coventry, R.I.). Clifford added 13 digs and 12 assists, while freshman Nevaeh Flores (Windham, Conn.) and freshman Libby Kibbe (Ware, Mass.) chipped in five kills each. Kibbe notched 20 digs, while senior Joanna Bampi ( Peabody, Mass.) snared a match-high 31 digs. Sophomore Kiana Ortiz (springfield, Mass.) dished out a team-high 16 assists.

Junior Ryan Hassett (North Oxford, Mass.) powered the Anna Maria attack with a team-high seven kills. Sophomore Sarah Burt (Plymouth, Mass.) and junior Bella Kozcia (Westfield, Mass.) each recorded four kills, with 11 and 13 digs, respectively. Sophomore Julia Tarantino (Pembroke, Mass.) doled out a match-high 18 assists in the win.

The Wildcats will look to return to the win column when they travel to Fitchburg State Tuesday night for a 6 pm start. Anna Maria travels to Lesley University for a road contest Wednesday at 8:00 p.m.
