COLBY-SAWYER FIELD HOCKEY TOPS BAY PATH 4-0

LONGMEADOW, Mass. – Freshman forward Taylor O'Connor (Sanbornton, N.H.) scored two unassisted goals, one in each half, to lead the Colby-Sawyer Chargers (2-2) to a 4-0 victory over the Bay Path Wildcats (1-4) in non-conference field hockey this afternoon at Ryan Field.

O'Connor opened the scoring at the 33-minute mark with her first tally of the contest and third goal of the season, to put Colby-Sawyer ahead 1-0, a lead that the Chargers would take into halftime.

Freshman Abbey Simmonds (Bristol, N.H.) would open the second-half scoring at the 43-minute mark on assists from sophomore Alexa Comesanas (Germantown, N.Y.) and sophomore Emma Frampton (New Castle, N.H.) to extend the Chargers' lead to 2-0.  The goal was Simmonds' second of the season.

O'Connor's second goal of the contest, her fourth marker of the year, stretched the lead to 3-0 at the 60-minute mark.  Freshman Haylie Alessi (York, Maine) closed out the scoring with her first collegiate goal off Comesanas' second assist of the match at the 65-minute mark.

Bay Path freshman goalkeeper Anna Meyer (Millbrook, N.Y.) recorded nine saves in between the pipes for the Wildcats, while teammates Breanna Hill (North Kingstown, R.I.) and Stephanie Belsen (Windsor Locks, Conn.) each collected one shot.

Colby-Sawyer freshman netminder Kasey Redmond (Germantown, N.Y.) did not record a save en route to her first career shutout.

The Chargers held a 15-2 edge in shots and an 11-3 margin in penalty corners.

Bay Path will return to action on Saturday, September 22 with a road matchup against Roger Williams at 3:00 p.m.  The Wildcats defeated RWU 2-0 on Wednesday.  Colby-Sawyer visits Elms College tomorrow at 2:00 p.m.
