Wildcats Bring Falcons Down
West Haven, Ct.— The Wildcats of Bay Path College swept the Falcons of Albertus Magnus 20-13 in the opener and 13-2 in the nightcap of a night doubleheader. Senior outfielder, Katie Begin (Weare, N.H.) led the Wildcats with 5 hits, 5 rbi’s and 5 runs scored in the two games.
Game 1
In the opener, Begin provided three singles and 2 walks and scored 3 runs in setting up freshmen, Nicole Dexter (Delanson, NY) and Mercedes Griffith (Malden, MA) who chipped in with 5 doubles and 8 rbi’s. Griffith, the NECC Top Rookie of the Week continued her hot hitting by going 4-6 during the doubleheader.
The Falcons of Albertus Magnus pounded 12 hits themselves for the game. Sophomore second baseman Danielle Figueroa (Bridgeport, Conn.) had 2 hits and scored 3 runs for the game.
Game 2
In the second game, Bay Path was able to mercy run rule the Falcons with a final score of 13-2 going five innings.
Seven separate Wildcats each had hits in the nightcap as Freshman, Keelin Dougherty (Northfield, Nh) provided the pitching to hold down the Falcons. She allowed 7 hits, struck out 5 and allowed one earned run. Begin again led the attack with 2 hits and 3 rbi’s and had some help from Dougherty and Senior, Kate Lowy (South Burlington, Vt.) who each had two hits.
Albertus Magnus’ catcher, Bria Szymanski,(Wallingford, Ct.) had 2 hits and played very well defensively thowing out 2 runners to hold down the Wildcats on the bases.
Bay Path is now 4-4 overall, while Albertus Magnus falls to 0-8 on the season. Bay Path will play Saturday, April 2 at Green Mountain College and opens its New England Collegiate Conference play on Sunday April, 3rd at 1:00 p.m. at home vs. Daniel Webster College.
