Mount Holyoke and Westfield Win In Tip-Off Tournament

South Hadley, MA - The Mount Holyoke and Westfield State basketball teams were victorious today in the first round of the Mount Holyoke college Tip-Off Tournament.  They will both advance to the championship game tomorrow at 3:00 PM.

In the first game of the night, Westfiel (1-0) defeated the University of New England (0-1), 67-56.  Westfield's leading scorer was junior Brenda Knott (Dudley, MA) with 26 points.  First-year Lekisha Walker (Springfield, MA) grabbed the most rebounds for Westfield with 7 total.  New England's offense was led by junior Missy Stults (Goshen, IN), who sank 25 points and tallied 10 offensive rebounds.

In the second match-up, Mount Holyoke (1-0) dominated Bay Path College (0-1), 87-28.  Senior Jessica Justice (Doylestown, PA) led all scorers with 16 points for MHC.  Maeve Barao (Norwell, MA) and Jeanne Powers (Danvers, MA) weren't far behind, scoring 10 points apiece.  Justice, Kara Bergeron (Houston, TX), and Elizabeth Colby (Belgrade, MN) led the Lyons in rebounds with five each.  Bay Path's high scorer was junior Michelle Frett (Groveton, NH) who racked up 11 points on the night, while Jamie Munson (Gill, MA) grabbed the most rebounds for the Wildcats (6 total).
