Bay Path shuts out Newbury 9-0 in NECC Tennis

Springfield, Mass. – The Bay Path University Wildcats shutout the Newbury College women's tennis team, 9-0, in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) action, Wednesday afternoon.  Senior Brittany Walsh (North Smithfield, R.I.) led the way to the Wildcats with a straight set victory in first singles 6-0,6-2 over junior Katelynn Bazile (Queens, N.Y.)

Bay Path wasted little time grabbing a quick, 3-0 advantage with a sweep of doubles. Walsh and first doubles teammate senior Taylor Wood (Castleton, N.Y.) defeated first year Jessica Russo (Watertown, Mass.) and Bazile, 8-4. Senior Brittany Schafer (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and senior Edna Aboagye (Wappinger Falls, N.Y.) took second doubles 8-1 over Mukasa and Wint while Yismel Rosario (Methuen, Mass.) senior Kim Drahushuk (Lawrence, Mass.) took third doubles by an 8-0 score.

In the singles portion of the match, Sophomore Katie Leibowitz (Tolland, Conn.) beat first year Amonique Wint (Lynn, Mass.) 6-0, 6-1. Senior Katrina Mannion (Lawrence, Mass.) won 6-0, 6-0 over first year Emily Deltano (Bristol, Conn.). Schafer defeated First year player Edvana Goncalves (Brockton, Mass.) 6-4, 6-1 to close out the match.

Bay Path improves to 4-7overall and 4-4 in the NECC while Newbury falls to 0-8 on the season and 0-8 in conference play.  The Wildcats return to the courts Friday October 9 when they travel to Lesley University at 7:30 pm.  Newbury will be back at it tomorrow when they host Mitchell College at 7:30 p.m.
