Newbury Makes Bay Path 15th Volleyball Victim

BROOKLINE, MA - With the President of the College, Dr. David Ellis, and many other facutly and staff in attendance at the First Annual Faculty and Staff night, the Nighthawks improved to 15-7 on the year.  Newbury is only one win away from matching the school record set during their 16-11 season last year.  Newbury stormed out of the gates in game one by winning 8 of the first 10 points to go out to a commanding 8-2 lead.  From there it was all Newbury as their fast offense kept Bay Path off guard.  Beth Covill (Fr. Nottingham, NH) served 10 straight points late in the game to keep the Wildcats at bay with a 30-15 Newbury win.

During games two and three all of the Nighthawks were able to see action as Newbury worked on their offensive plays and strategies.  Newbury came out of the gates a little slow, but responded nicely after a timeout and made a 5-point run to take the lead for good at 19-18.  Newbury held on for the 30-25 victory.  In game three Newbury used two separate 5-point runs to keep Bay Path off guard.  They coasted for the easy win 30-20.

Tanja Laws (Fr. Easton, PA) and Ashley Challinor (So. Darien, CT) each had 5 kills to lead the diverse offense of the Nighthawks.  Michaela Schermer (Sr. Munich, Germany) had 4 aces for the Nighthawks, who had 15 aces as a team, to remain one of the top serving teams in the NCAA Division III.
