Athletic Department Helps Haiti

During the fall semester, The Bay Path Athletic Department and the Student Athletic Advisory Council (SAAC) held a tag sale.  All of the donations from the tag sale, combined with the campus-wide fundraising efforts for Haitian aid, will be given to the Red Cross to help in their relief effort.

On January 12th, a 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck the city of Port-au-Prince, the capital of Haiti.  Haiti is the poorest nation in the western hemisphere and the earthquake destroyed most of the fragile infrastructure in the heavily populated city.  There have been nearly 170,000 deaths counted with an estimated three million people being affected by the destruction.   Approximately 20,000 deaths are recorded each day that could have been prevented through adequate medical care and surgery, stressing the continued need for medical aid.  By donating money to the Red Cross, the money will go towards deploying personnel, sending relief supplies, and providing financial resources.

The tag sale raised $173 that will help the Red Cross with their relief effort in Haiti.  This money will be combined with the campus wide effort to raise funds.  The Bay Path community is joining the cause in many ways to help the Haitian people rebuild their City.
