Bay Path College Hosts National Girls & Women In Sports Day

Longmeadow, Mass. – Bay Path student-athletes celebrated the 24th annual National Girls and Women In Sports day last week by inviting 20 girls from a local elementary school to campus.

The afternoon kicked off with a visit from the Wildcat, followed by a discussion about sportsmanship, a topic of interest this year throughout the New England Collegiate Conference. Then the Wildcat student-athletes facilitated a wide-range of activities for the girls, which finished with a scavenger hunt around campus. The day concluded with the elementary students sitting down for dinner with the Bay Path student-athletes.

NGWS Day was started in 1987 in honor of Olympic volleyball player Flo Hyman, who died in 1986 while competing in a tournament in Japan. The day has grown into a national celebration of women’s athletic achievements in the past and present and to acknowledge the positive influence of sports participation and the ongoing struggle for equality and access.
