Bay Path Women’s Basketball Drops 70-44 Decision to Mount Ida

Bassett, Bronson and Herring Pace Wildcats with 12 Points Each

HOLYOKE, Mass. – Despite three players scoring 12 points apiece, the Bay Path University women's basketball team fell to non-conference rival Mount Ida College 70-44 Wednesday afternoon at the Bartley Center.

For the Wildcats, junior forward Haleigh Bassett (Millers Falls, Mass) narrowly missed a double-double, registering 12 points and nine rebounds.  Bassett was matched for the Wildcats' team lead in scoring by freshman guard Emmeline Bronson (Shelton, Conn.) and senior guard Kaylee Herring (Worcester, Vt.), both of whom registered 12 points.

Mount Ida sophomore forward Valerie Martin (Derry, N.H.) led all scorers with 18 points and 10 rebounds, which tied for the game-high. Senior guard Breanna Muir (Wareham, Mass.) added 10 points for the Mustangs.  Sophomore guard Jessica Cyr (Ashford, Conn.) and senior guard Jaime Moscato (Taunton, Mass.) each tallied seven points for the victors.

On the glass, Bay Path also received strong performances from freshman Kaleigh Hart (Wethersfield, Conn.), who matched the game-high with 10 rebounds to go with two points, while junior guard Joanne Nazario (Springfield, Mass.) snared nine rebounds, including seven on the offensive end, while adding four points.

Mount Ida jumped out to a 25-11 advantage after the first quarter before heading into halftime with a 38-22 lead. The Wildcats claimed a 13-11 edge in the third quarter to trim the Mustangs' lead to 15 points, 51-36, but Mount Ida used a 19-8 final quarter to close out the scoring at 70-44.

Mount Ida (4-0) outshot the Wildcats 41.8% to 30.9% from the field, but Bay Path (0-4) won the battle of the boards 45-36.

After the Thanksgiving holiday break, Bay Path will return to action with its New England Collegiate Conference opener versus visiting Dean College on Wednesday, November 29 at 8:00 p.m.  Mount Ida will next travel to Salem State for a non-conference game on Thursday, November 30 at 7:00 p.m., a final tune-up before beginning Great Northeast Athletic Conference play.
