Bay Path Continues to Show it's for Real

In a region already filled with outstanding collegiate women soccer programs, Bay Path College is emerging as a new leader.

The Wildcats, coming off a best ever 12-7-1 season and a trip to the North Atlantic Conference championship game, are 4-0 this year after cruising past Southern Vermont 6-0 yesterday at Farmlea Road Field in Longmeadow.

"I'm in my 10th year here, and this is clearly my best team ever," coach Todd Ditmar said.

Kerry Verdecchia scored three goals while Michelle Frett, Amy Kingsbury, and Cheryl Kuczynski had one apiece.

In their fast start, the Wildcats defeated Saint Joseph College (Conn.) for the first time, 5-1.  That's the only goal they've allowed all season with other shutouts over Maine Maritime Academy (2-0) and Thomas College (5-0).  The lone goal allowed came on a header off a Bay Path defender.

The Wildcats have 12 players back from last year's team, nine. . .

. . .been having two goaltenders with varsity high school experience in freshmen Denise Larochelle of Southwick and Stacy Haas of Wahconah.

Bay Path goes for its fifth straight win when it hosts Johnson State at 2p.m. Saturday.
