Becker Wins First NAC Women's Tennis Title

Worcester/Leicester, Mass. - Becker College won its first North Atlantic Conference women's tennis title upsetting the two-time defending NAC champion Castleton State College who led the tournament at the end of day one. Bay Path College also had a strong finish on Sunday and took home the runner-up prize followed by Castleton State and Johnson State College. The tournament was held on the Leicester Campus of Becker College.

The second day crowned six singles and three doubles flight champions. Becker College took home the hardware in flight one (Allison Flynn/Wilmington, MA), flight two (Lindsay Lapen/Lancaster, MA), flight four (Colleen Murphy/Lyme, CT), flight six (Jen Nieman/Townsend, MA), and doubles first flight (Flynn/Lapen). Bay Path College scored with the third flight (Raquel Babeu/North Adams, MA), fifth flight (Julie Bendzin/Poestenkill, NY), and the number three double team (Bendzin and Kara Fox/ Biddeford, ME). Castleton State rounded out the champions with a win at the number two doubles flight Charla Klaas/Shickshinny, NY and Emily Hallett/Medway, MA.

 CASTLETON STATE LEADS NAC TENNIS TOURNAMENT
Defending champs lead after day one of tournament

(Worcester/Leicester, Mass.) - Two-time defending North Atlantic Conference Champion, Castleton State College leads the NAC Women's Tennis tournament after day one of competition. Castleton has the lead with 6 points followed by Becker College (5 points), Bay Path College (4 points) and Johnson State College (3 points). The tournament is being played on the Leicester Campus of Becker College.

The first day of the tournament consisted of eighteen matches, two semifinal matches in each of the six single flights plus two semifinal matches in three double flights. A point is awarded to each flight winner. The tournament will conclude tomorrow starting at 9 am. Each flight will crown an individual winner and a team champion will be named.

 


Championship Information

The North Atlantic Conference Women's Tennis Championships will be hosted by Becker College this weekend, October 21-22. Four institutions will compete in the two day, flighted tournament. Individuals will be seeded into flights prior to the tournament with the top seed in each flight playing the fourth seed, and the second seed against the third seed. The winners will play for the flight title. A team champion will also be determined. One point will be awarded to the winner of each flight and a half point to the consolation winner. No-ad scoring will be used throughout the tournament.
