Tough Losses on Senior Day for Wildcats

Gonzalez, Goodhart, Peck, Sarna-McCarthy and Ruiz honored today

LONGMEADOW, Mass.— The Wildcats of Bay Path University fell 4-2 in the opener and 9-4 in the final game today honoring eight seniors including five Wildcats; designated player Shayenne Gonzalez (Enfield, Conn.), pitcher Madison Goodhart (Pawtucket, R.I.), infielder Katrina Peck (Newington, Conn.), infielder Marissa Sarna-McCarthy (Southampton, Mass.) and Jai Ruiz (Hadley, Mass.). Three graduating members of the Dean College Bulldogs were also recognized: outfielder Danielle Dumont (Nashua, N.H.), infielder Courtney Holden (Bridgeport, Conn.) and infielder Michele Sessa (Tewksbury, Mass.).

Senior pitcher Goodhart suffered the loss giving up four runs on ten hits.  She fanned three batters. Three wildcats hit safely for the game with Ruiz and Sarna-McCarthy along with junior pinch hitter Taylor Feraco (Oxford, Mass.). Ruiz and Peck scored the Wildcats two runs, while Sarna-McCarthy and sophomore infielder/pitcher Kayla Vance (Clifton, N.J.) tallied the two RBI.

Sophomore hurler Ali Nelson (Candia, N.H.) tossed the victory giving up two runs on three hits; she struck-out six batters and walked four for the game.

Freshman outfielder Miranda Seacord (Cambridge, N.Y.) led her team going 3-for-3 with one run. Junior centerfielder Melanie Rios-Nevarez (Vega Alta, Puerto Rico) notched two RBI and two hits; including a home run.

Junior Bulldog pitcher Karissa Menzinger (Centereach, N.Y.) gave up four runs on 11 hits; she walked four and fanned two batters for the win.  Vance suffered the loss giving up nine runs, only five earned, on nine hits. She walked three and struck-out one Bulldog.

Freshman infielder Shelby Smith (Southwick, Mass.) led her team with three hits; one run and four RBI. Menzinger and sophomore outfielder Alexis Portales (San Antonio, Tex.) also had multiple hits in the second game.

Four Wildcats had a multiple hit game as well including Sarna-McCarthy, Peck, Feraco and junior leftfielder Camielle Keith (Pawtucket, R.I.).

#3 Marissa Sarna-McCarthy  (four -year starter) has played in 142 games, with 127 hits, 74 runs, 21 doubles, 10 triples, two homeruns, 85 RBI,  235 put-outs, 4 stolen bases, a .319 batting average, .404 on-base percentage and a .437 slugging percentage.

#7 Shayenne Gonzalez (two -year member) has played in five games with one RBI, two put-outs. She is a three-sport athlete also playing soccer and basketball.

#10 Katrina Peck (four-year starter) has played 145 games, with 144 hits, 93 runs, 31 doubles, two triples, six homeruns, 83 RBI, 13 stolen, bases,386 put-outs, 89 assists, a.352 batting average, .463 on base percentage and a .482 slugging percentage.

#13 Jai Ruiz (four-year starter) has played in 132 games, with 89 hits, five doubles, one triple, 21 RBI, 22 stolen bases, 177 put-outs, six assists, a .276 batting average, .354 on-base percentage and a .298 slugging percentage. She is also a three sport athlete and NECC all-conference member. Jai has also made three appearances in the circle.

#64 Madison Goodhart (four-year starting pitcher) has played in 134 games, with 118 hits, 66 runs, 11 doubles, four triples and four homeruns, 71 RBI, 4 stolen bases, 70 put-outs, 151 assists, a .345 batting average, .420 on-base percentage and a .436 slugging percentage. In the circle, she has started 74 games with a 34-38 record, 1 save, 69 games closed, hurled 470 innings, struck-out 268 batters, and currently has a 4.51 ERA.
