Bay Path Fall to Top Ranked Regis 6-3 in NECC Women’s Tennis Action

LONGMEADOW, Mass. – In the second meeting of these New England Collegiate Conference schools Regis came on strong to start the match after losing two doubles in their last meeting with Bay Path.  The Pride managed to overtake all three doubles and didn't look back scoring the necessary five winning points before the host Wildcats notched their first win of the match when freshman  Brittany Walsh (North Smithfield, R.I.) defeated sophomore Kendall Kolb (Plymouth, Mass.) in No.3 singles action 6-1, 6-4.

Regis again took all three doubles with freshmen Abigail Wehr (Suwanee, Ga.) and Jazz Hicks (Plymouth, Mass.) taking the No.1 doubles 8-4, while junior Caroline Roche (Hanover, Mass.) and freshman Jewel Medeiros (Rochester, Mass.) barely overtook sophomore Abigail Janneke (Waterbury, Conn.)  and junior Teanna Montoya (Edgartown, Mass.) after a super-tie breaker set winning 8-8 (7-2).

Unfortunately Walsh and partner fellow freshman Taylor Wood (Castleton, Conn.) lost their first doubles match of the season falling 8-5 to Kolb and sophomore Erika Palmer (Southborough, Mass.).

In singles action, No.2 Stephanie Morin (Springfield, Mass.) was defeated by the Pride's Hicks first 6-1, 6-0. Medeiros picked up the winning point next defeating Montoya 6-0, 6-0 to win the match in the No.4 flight.

Walsh grabbed the Wildcats first point next, while junior Symone Watson (Hamden, Conn.) came up with a big win in the No.1 singles defeating Wehr 6-2, 6-1 after falling to her earlier in the season.

With the score at 5-2, Wood was the next to finish in the No.5 singles spot taking Roche 6-3, 6-3. Regis would then take an insurance game at the No.6 singles with Mara defeating Janneke 6-4, 6-2.

Bay Path is now 9-4 overall and 4-3 in NECC play, while Regis holds on to the top spot with a 9-1 season record and 7-1 in conference play. Both teams face the Nighthawks next with Bay Path travelling to Newbury tomorrow for a 3:30 p.m. match and  Regis will host Newbury on Wednesday, October 10th at 5:00 p.m.
