Springfield, Mass. -

The Bay Path University SAAC participated in a Massachusetts Special Olympics Volleyball Qualifier held at Springfield College on Saturday, April 22, 2018.  Three student-athletes representing Bay Path volunteered to help make the event a success.

Junior, soccer and lacrosse student-athlete, Megan Mackie stated "volunteering for the Special Olympics Volleyball Tournament at Springfield College was such a fun and amazing experience; I think our university should participate in these types of events more."

Lacrosse player, Bianca Romero, Field Hockey player, Amy Langsam, accompanied Mackie to the event. These three were designated "floaters" to help out whenever necessary. Immediately they were tasked with different duties suchs as; scorekeepers, linesmen, and head officials for the various volleyball games. They helped to insure the games were played appropriately/fairly and that each game was played on schedule. There were so many teams that came from all over Massachusetts, that 6 different courts were needed for all of the teams that came. This event was a qualifying tournament for Special Olympics of Massachusetts. "It was such a rewarding experience and all of us learned a lot from the players and coaches who came for the day." repored Mackie.
