Wheelock Claims Battle of the Wildcats

Chestnut Hill, MA - Freshman guard Sarah Brown (Plainville, CT) scored a career high 32 points to lead Wheelock College to a thrilling win over Bay Path College in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action on Wednesday evening at Pine Manor College.  For Wheelock, it was their first win of the season as they improved to 1-12, 1-6 in the NAC.  Bay Path drops to 1-12, 0-9 NAC on the season.

After a back and forth first half, the home Wildcats were left clutching to a 33-30 advantage.  However, an 11-0 Bay Path run midawy through the 2nd half put the visitors on top by a score of 47-41 with 11:41 to play.  The Wildcats stormed back with a swarming defense that caused Bay Path 24 turnovers in the game.  Wheelock reclaimed the lead for good on a free throw by Kerry Casey with 2:56 left in the game.  Wheelock went for a perfect four of four from the free throw line in the final minute to thwart the Bay Path attempt at a comeback.

Brown was a model of consistency as she torched the nets with 16 points in each half on an array of jumpers, drives to the hoop with both hands, and solid free throw shooting.  She was joined in double fingers by Samantha Cummings with 10 points and several sparkling assists.

Freshman forward Jessica Hunt (Madison, CT) lead Bay Path with 24 points and 14 rebounds.  Junior center Chissy Ordyna (Great Barrington, MA) added 22 points and 11 rebounds for the visiting Wildcats.
