Wildcats Fall to Newbury Hoops Action in NECC

HOLYOKE, Mass. – Sophomore guard Emmeline Bronson (Shelton, Conn.) poured in a game-high 18 points, but it was not enough as the Bay Path University women's basketball team dropped a hard-fought 56-37 decision to Newbury College Tuesday evening at the Bartley Center.

Senior guard Jo Nazario (Springfield, Mass.) added 13 points for the Wildcats, while freshman forward Nyasia Reeves (Peekskill, N.Y.) pulled down a game-best 17 rebounds to go with four points.

The teams were evenly matched during the first 20 minutes of play, battling to a 9-9 tie after one quarter and a narrow 24-22 advantage for Newbury at the half.

The Nighthawks took control after the break, outscoring Bay Path 19-7 in the third quarter and 13-8 in the final frame.

Senior guard Taylor Kelley (North Billerica, Mass.) led Newbury with 15 points, while sophomore forward Jaymesha Sanders (West Haven, Conn.) chipped in 12 points to go with a team-high 10 rebounds.

Bay Path enjoyed a 42-39 advantage in rebounds.

Both teams return to action on Thursday, as Bay Path (1-17, 0-13 NECC) will host New England College at 5.30 p.m., while Newbury (9-12, 7-7) will host Elms at 7:00 p.m.
