Bay Path University opens NECC Season with a 6-3 win over Becker College

LONGMEADOW, Mass.- Bay Path hosted the Hawks of Becker College in a NECC conference rival match.  The Wildcats edged the Hawks 6-3, taking the doubles 2-1. Junior No.5 player Edna Aboagye (Wappinger Falls, NY.) took the deciding point defeating senior Chenylie Mercado (Tyngsborough, Mass.) 6-2, 6-1.

Becker's No. 1 tandem of sophomore Jennifer Lord (Fall River, Mass.) and freshman Jacqueline Andrade (Somerset, Mass.)  defeated Bay Path's pair of senior Stephanie Morin (Springfield, Mass.)and senior Abigail Janneke (Waterbury Conn.)8-8, 7-4.  The Wildcats would take #3 doubles with junior Kim Drahushuk (Hudson, N.Y.) and junior Yismel Rosario (Methuen, Mass.) 8-8, 9-7 over Mercado and freshman Dana Mahan (Manville, R.I..).

Once again junior Brittany Walsh (North Smithfield, R.I.) played well winning her doubles match 8-2 and losing tough single match 4-6, 6-1, 5-7 to Jacqueline Andrade (Somerset, Mass.) Walsh teamed with fellow junior Taylor Wood (Castleton, N.Y.) and took the final doubles point 8-2 defeating junior Livia Smith (Worcester, Mass.) and junior Kerry Saltvick (Bakersfield, Calif.).

Bay Path is now 2-3 overall and 1-0 in NECC play, while Becker falls to 1-5 on the season and is 0-2 in league play. Bay Path will be back in action on Saturday, September 20th playing Regis at 1 pm in a conference match, while Becker hosts Clarkon Sunday, September 18th at 4:00 p.m.
