Senior Kacie Bayreuther Sets Bay Path Career Record for Digs

HOLYOKE, Mass. – Dig Pink Day turned out to be a happy Saturday afternoon for the Bay Path University volleyball team, as the Wildcats posted an exciting 3-2 victory over Elms College in New England Collegiate Conference action at the Bartley Center on the campus of Holyoke Community College Saturday afternoon.

The match was a back-and-forth affair, as the teams alternated victories in the first four sets.  Elms jumped out to a quick lead, winning the first set by a narrow 25-20 margin.  Bay Path would win three of the next four sets to lay claim to a thrilling victory.  The Wildcats pulled out an exciting 28-26 triumph in the second set before Elms regained a 2-1 lead with a 25-22 victory in the day's third set.

Bay Path ultimately prevailed by claiming a 25-23 victory in set four before pulling out the match with a 16-14 edge in the fifth and deciding set. 

Bay Path (4-17, 1-6 NECC) was led by freshman Lauren Vallee (Bristol, Conn.) led all players with 22 kills, while also chipping in 20 digs. Senior teammate Kacie Bayreuther (East Lyme, Conn.) tallied a match-high 37 digs to establish a new program record for career digs.  The Wildcats also received stellar performances from Elizabeth Haylette(Terryville, Conn.) who posted 15 kills and 11 digs and sophomore Aaliyah Gordon (Springfield, Mass.) who dished out 38 assists to lead all players.

Elms (5-19, 1-6 NECC) was led by a 20-kill, 17-dig effort from senior Christine Searles (Tolland, Mass.).  SeniorCaitlyn Larvey (Greenfield, Mass.) turned in a team-best 20 digs, while junior Alexandra Mack (Wilbraham, Mass.) just missed a double-double with 10 kills and nine digs.  Junior Shannon Bolton (Shelton, Conn.) added a team-high 29 assists. 

Bay Path will close out the regular season at home Wednesday night with a senior night tilt against NECC rival Becker at 8:00 p.m., while Elms travels to Mitchell next Saturday at 5:00 p.m.
