Bay Path Takes NECC Weekly Honors

  Jessica Nizinski, (West Springfield, MA) a junior outfielder/pitcher, was selected as the NECC Player of the Week in softball. She led the Wildcats, batting .455 with one home run and 10 RBIs as the Wildcats posted an unbeaten NECC 4-0 record and a 6-2 weekly performance. In addition to a .682 slugging percentage for the week, she added a triple, two sacrifice flies and one sacrifice bunt. Nizinski, who also hurled a 3-1 week on the mound, helped the Wildcats shut down their NECC foes Wheelock College and Becker College in only 24 innings and outscoring the opposition 50-14. The Wildcats opened up the week with Nizinski leading the way, shutting down Albertus Magnus College in a 10-inning doubleheader 14-6 and 17-2, while they faced a tough Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) falling 8-5 in game one and gave up the lead in the nightcap succumbing 15-14 in only six innings due to darkness.

  Kristal Cormier, (Rochester, NH) a junior pitcher, received the NECC Pitcher of the Week title as she went posted a 3-1 record with a 2.62ERA in four complete game starts for the week. In a 17-1 triumph over Albertus Magnus, Cormier allowed only one run on six hits over five innings and struck out five. In her loss against MCLA, Cormier allowed five earned runs out of the 15 scored against her. In her first conference performance, Cormier stepped up big allowing only one earned run on three hits, while fanning three. She closed out the week by giving up nine hits and only three earned runs while striking out five and walking one.

  Maeghan Whitcomb, (Lyndonville, VT) a freshman first baseman, was named the NECC Rookie of the Week as she led Bay Path for the week with a .500 batting average with two home runs and four RBIs in five games played. Whitcomb hit safely in four of the five games, slugging an amazing 1.100 for the week. She closed out the week with a .706 on-base percentage and a .955 fielding percentage notching 20 putouts and one assist.
