Bay Path College Picked 5th in NECC Pre-Season Poll

The Bay Path College Wildcats were picked 5th in the NECC softball coaches pre-season poll.  Bay Path looks to make another run at the final four again in 2011.

The Wildcats are coming off a record season, 21 wins and .307 team batting average, in which three players were chosen to the NECC All-Conference, 2010 NECC Player of the Year, Sarah Gates, Maeghan Whitcomb and Samantha Gunseth.  Gates was also the NCAA Division III National Batting Champion, leading the nation with a .549 batting average.

This years addition will feature at least five first year players looking to replace those lost starters and make an immediate impact; Keelin Dougherty (Northfield, NH), Nicole Dexter (Delanson, NY), Mercedes Griffith (Malden, MA), Emily Serrano (North Adams, MA) and Theresa West (Hadley, MA) all are vying for starting positions.  Returning starters, seniors Katie Begin (Weare, NH) and Kate Lowy (South Burlington, VT), along with junior Kellie Lastowski (Turners falls, MA) will provide leadership and game experience to the young team. Also returning from last season are Vanessa Chaplin (North Attleboro MA), Emily Evans (Westford, MA), Taryn Ricci (Southington, CT), Jess Priestly (Middleboro, MA), Jen Scionti (Cromwell, CT) and Marissa Stone (Londonderry, NH).  Newcomers to the team include; Alex Putnam (Topsfield, MA), Beatriz Frausto (East Hartford, CT), Amanda Blumenstein (Fort Lee, NJ) and Laurie Preston (Springfield, MA).

Bay Path College opens its season up March 19 with a home doubleheader against Vermont Technical College.

 
 
 
 
 

Bay Path will also have a Pink Day to support the American Cancer Society.

This event will take place on April 20, 2011 during the doubleheader against Newbury College.  Everyone attending the game is encouraged to where pink in support of the student-athletes and American Cancer Society.
