Eagles Fly By Wildcats, 75-54

Nashua – The Daniel Webster women’s basketball team used a 15-6 run over a span of six minutes early in the second half to take control on the way to posting a 74-54 victory over Bay Path College in a New England Collegiate Conference matchup Monday night at Mario Vagge Gymnasium.

 
Senior Sarah Paternostro (Glastonbury, Conn.) notched 17 points – one short of her season high – to lead five players in double figures as the Eagles (8-5, 4-2 NECC) won for the fifth time in their last six outings.

 
Senior Alycia Gervais (Windham, Conn.) notched a double double with 14 points and game-highs of 12 rebounds and five assists, while Jennifer Fredericks (Beacon Falls, Conn.) continued her strong play of late adding a double double with 11 points and 11 boards. Freshman Allyssa Marson (Augusta, Maine) scored 11 points while senior Emily Travis (Somerset, Mass.) added 10 second half points in just 11 minutes off the bench.

 
Nicole Delano (Enfield, Conn.) led the Wildcats (2-8, 2-4 NECC), with a game high 19 points off the bench, adding seven rebounds. Kayla Skiffington (E. Longmeadow, Mass.) notched 13 points and nine boards, while Toni Alexander (Enfield) chipped in with 11 points and seven boards.

 
DWC shot 43-percent from the field including 55-percent in the second half and powered their way inside to finish with important wins in total rebounds (46-40) and scoring in the paint (38-24).

 
Bay Path led three times early on, the last an 11-9 advantage after a Delano layup at the 13:07 mark but the Eagles answered with eight straight as part of 12-2 run keyed by four points each from Gervais and Paternostro to build a 21-13 lead with 6:38 to go in the period.

 
Two from Delano at the line later closed the gap back to three (21-18) but DWC finished the half with a 10-2 run sparked by a trey and 20-footer from Fredericks for an 11-point edge (31-20) at the break.

 
A Brittany Alexander three opened the second half for Bay Path but Paternostro answered from 10 feet and Kirsten Murphy (Woodstock, Conn.) went inside sparking the pivotal 15-6 run that grew the lead out to 17 (46-29) on a Marson three with 13:14 remaining.

 
Bay Path chipped away over the next six minutes, whittling the lead to 11 (54-46) after a Delano three and Alexander jumper but Murphy and Gervais went back-to–back inside and a Travis layup pushed the lead back to 18 (65-47) with 5:08 left and Bay Path pulled no closer than 15 the rest of the way.

 
The Eagles now head back on the road for a Thursday NECC matchup at Mitchell beginning at 5:30 p.m.

 
Bay Path heads over to Elms College Thursday for a NECC meeting at 7:00 p.m.
