Skiffington Honored On 2nd Team All-NECC

Kayla Skiffington of Bay Path College was named to the 2011-12 NECC All-Conference 2nd Team.  Skiffington led the "Wildcats" in scoring,field goal % and rebounding during her 1st year of collegiate basketball. In the 18 games played this year she averaged 17.6 pts./game,13.7 rebs/game and shot 50% from the field. Kayla also had 11 double (pts)/doubles(rebs). Coach Shaw has only praise for her work ethic in practice and games, "she works hard and demands that same effort from her teammates" said Shaw.  She also had team highs with 26 points in a game vs. Southern Vermont College on January 26 and 21 rebounds on February 9, 2012. 

 

For the second consecutive season, Daniel Webster senior forward Alycia Gervais was honored as the 2011-12 New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Womens' Basketball Player of the Year in a vote by the league's coaches. Gervais averaged 15.3 points and 10.0 rebounds per game while shooting 45.5% from the field and 82% from the free throw line.

Elms freshman Denisha Parks was named the league's Rookie of the Year. Parks, who was also a first team all-conference selection, averaged 19.7 points and 12.8 rebounds per conference contest leading the Blazers in scoring in 13 of 18 NECC games and leading the team in rebounding in 15 of 18 games. 

Joining Parks on the first team, is teammate Erika Murphy. Murphy, a senior forward for the Blazers, earned her second consecutive first-team selection helping Elms to its most wins in conference action averaging 14.4 points per game and 11.0 rebounds per game during league play. 

Newbury's Catherine O'Connell, the 2010 NECC Rookie of the Year, was honored as a first team all-conference choice this season. The juinor center led the nation averaging 15 rebounds per game posting 20 double-doubles on the season. O'Connell's 14.6 points, 15.9 rebounds and 3.0 blocks per game in conference play helped the Nighthawks to a 13-5 mark. The junior twice was honored nationally as a D3Hoops Team of the Week selection.

Sophomore forward Claire Ramonas helped lead the Pride to a perfect 18-0 mark in the NECC by averaging 14 points, 7.3 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 2.6 steals per game this season. Ramonas led the NECC in field goal percentage and is third nationally shooting 59.3% from the field.

Elms head coach Laura Habacker was honored by her peers as the league's top coach after guiding the Blazers to a 14-4 conference record and their first NECC championship.

Wheelock College garnered the league's Sportsmanship Award.

NECC all-conference selections are determined by a vote of the conference coaches. Additional players honored are due to ties in the voting process.
