Becker defeats Bay Path 4-0 in NECC Action

LEICESTER, Mass. --- Junior defender Amy Grenier (Westminster, Mass. / Oakmont Regional) scored a career-high four goals as the Becker College field hockey team defeated visiting Bay Path College, 4-0, in NECC play on Wednesday afternoon at Alumni Field in Leicester.

The Hawks of Becker (2-10 / 2-1 NECC) got off to a great start when Grenier scored in the sixth minute off a corner from freshman midfielder Amy Cooper (Monument, Colo. / Lewis Palmer) to put the Hawks ahead 1-0.

The Wildcats of Bay Path (0-7 / 0-3 NECC) had their best chance to score just before the break when they had back-to-back shots on goal in rapid succession. But the Hawks turned both shots away, and the 1-0 score would hold up for the remainder of the first period.

The hosts would score again ten minutes into the second half, as Grenier took off on a breakaway for her second goal of the game, then added two more in the 52nd and 54th minutes respectively. That would hold up for the final score.

Becker sophomore goalkeeper Elysabeth Jefferies (Lisbon Falls, Maine / Hebron Academy) finished with three saves in net. Bay Path junior goalkeeper Bethany Rogers (Plymouth, Mass. / Plymouth South High School) recorded 12 stops. Becker outshot Bay Path, 22-4.

The Hawks will be back on the field on Saturday when they travel to Elms College for a 2:00 p.m. NECC game. The Wildcats host Daniel Webster on Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
