Wildcats Falls in Double Overtime Heartbreaker 2-1 to Elms

Bay Path holds Pink Out Game

LONGMEADOW, Mass. – Senior forward Brie Voight (Springfield, Mass.) came in clutch for the Blazers scoring both goals including the game winner during the second sudden death overtime period finding the back of the net in 102nd minute of play breaking up the tie taking the win 2-1 over the host Wildcats of Bay Path University. Despite the heartbreaker, the Wildcats' junior forward Jailinne Ruiz (Hadley, Mass.) scored at the end of the first breaking up the shut-out. Bay Path held their annual Pink Out game helping raise awareness and money supporting National Breast Cancer Awareness month.

Voight scored first at the two minute mark off and assist by junior midfielder Danielle Asklar (Berlin, Conn.) Ruiz would knot the game at 42:38 getting a piece of a rebound off a senior defender Jillian Barry (Jewett City, Conn.) attempt.

Both teams would battle it out for the next half and two overtime periods. Junior defender Christina Leonardo (Enfield, Conn.) would combine for a pass in to Voight for the game ending shot and goal at 101:43.

Sophomore Caitlyn Esposito (East Haven, Conn.) grabbed a game-high 12 saves for Bay Path, while Elms sophomore keeper Rebecca Molin (West Hartford, Conn.) picked up the win with no saves.

Elms is now 11-5-1 overall and 5-1-1 in the New England Collegiate Conference, while Bay Path falls to 6-5-1 on the season and 3-3 in conference play. Bay Path will travel to Mitchell on Saturday, October 21st for a noon match, while Elms will host Wheelock at 2:00 p.m. both teams playing NECC games.
