Ruiz Jolts Wildcats to 11-0 Shut-Out of Pine Manor

LONGMEADOW, Mass.- Junior forward Jai Ruiz (Hadley, Mass.) came out ready to battle scoring a hat-trick in the first three minutes of play leading the Wildcats of Bay Path. She added a fourth goal in the seventh minute before Head Coach Jamey Mercer gave her a much deserved break. Mercer would clear his bench giving ample playing time to all of his eligible student-athletes in an 11-0 shutout of the Gators of Pine Manor today at Ryan Field in NCAA Division III regional women's soccer action.

Sophomore midfielder Joanna Feliciano (Springfield, Mass.) connected with Ruiz for the first and second goal and later netted the ninth and tenth goal in the second half. Senior forward Elena Helming (Maplewood, N.J.) finished with four assists and one goal for the sweep.

Junior defender Rebekah Herring (Springfield, Mass.) scored the sixth goal in the 23rd minute with Helmig assisting. Helmig and junior forward Megan Mackie (APO, AE) would combine for two great crosses to help freshman midfielder Cassidy Nuccio (Tolland, Conn.) net her first collegiate goal in the 32nd minute of play with the seventh and final goal of the first half.

Senior defender Samantha Maynard (Chicopee, Mass.) started the ball rolling in the second half scoring at 54:49 on the clock again Helmig notching the assist.

Feliciano's two goals in the next ten minutes would push the Wildcats beyond ten goals. Mackie and Nuccio would garner the assists. In the 86th minute of play junior defender Samantha Drapinski (Malden, Mass.) would conclude the Wildcats scoring off a cross from freshman forward Jessica Hurley (Hadley, Mass.).

Sophomore goalkeeper Caitlyn Esposito (East Haven, Conn.) waged the shared shut-out with junior keeper Shayenne Gonzalez (Enfield, Conn.). Esposito had three saves, while Gonzalez had five for the match. Bay Path advances to 3-2 on the season, while Pine Manor is now 2-1 overall. The Wildcats will be back in action traveling to Dean College on Saturday, September 23rd at 11:00 a.m.
