Wildcats Split, While Trailblazers Prevail in Tri-Match with Spartans

EAST LONGMEADOW, MASS.-  Bay Path hosted Mass. College of Liberal Arts Trailblazers (2-5)  and Castleton University Spartans (0-6) in another tri-match today at the First Baptist arena falling 3-0 in the first match to MCLA, the Trailblazers also took the second match 3-0 over the Spartans. The Wildcats shut-down Castleton 3-0 in the final match in NCAA Division III regional women's volleyball action.

 

Despite the tough loss, the Wildcats were once again led by senior middle blocker Lauren Vallee (Bristol, Conn.) hitting a.452 on the day with 17 kills. MCLA took the match in three set games 25-20, 25-23 and 25-22. Senior middle hitter Brianna O'Rourke (Piseco, N.Y.) finished with a match high .556 attack percentage adding two blocks. Sophomore outside hitter Brooke Queripel (Palmer, Alaska) had 10 kills and seven digs.

 

MCLA again took control early in the second match of the day defeating Castleton 25-6, 25-15 and 25-14. Freshman setter Natasha Stewart (North Andover, Mass) did a great job running her offense with 13 assists. Senior middle hitter Maggie Allen (East Patchogue, N.Y.) topped all players with five kills. The Spartans freshman outside hitter/Libero Meghan Zawatsky (Chelmsford, Mass.) finished with nine digs and two kills.

 

In the first match, the Wildcats won 25-12, 25-19 and 25-20. Vallee again topped all players with 13 kills and a .520 hitting percentage. Junior middle hitter Taylor Heinbokel (Agawam, Mass.) added nine kills (.438 attack percentage) along with six digs. Coming off an injury, senior outside hitter Ashlee Connors (Springfield, Mass.) chipped in seven kills, four digs and two aces. Connors nabbed the final point nailing a service ace on match point.

 

Junior setter Lexi Cears (Agawam, Mass.) finished with 51 assists on the day, 30 against the Spartans. Junior Libero Joanne Nazario (Springfield, Mass.) had 8 digs. The Spartans were led by junior setter Maria Jackson (Seward, Alaska) with ten assists, five kills and seven digs.

 

 

The Wildcats will be back in action traveling to Smith on Tuesday, September 12th for  7:00 p.m. start.
