Wildcats Land Falcons 3-1 in Women’s Volleyball Action

Cears Honored Pre-Game for Tallying 1,000th Career Assist at Fitchburg on the Road

 

EAST LONGMEADOW, Mass.- The Wildcats were led by senior middle hitter Lauren Vallee (Bristol, Conn.) topping all player with 18 kills hitting .412 for the match. Despite a slow start and losing the first game, Bay Path came back to again take the Fitchburg State Falcons 3-1 tonight at the First Baptist Arena. Game scores were 16-25, 25-16, 25-21 and 25-22. Prior to the match, junior setter Lexi Cears (Agawam, Mass.) was finally honored at their first home match back from a ten game away schedule. Interestingly, Cears reached her 1,000th milestone on the Falcons' home turf defeating them 3-1 on Thursday, September 28th, 2017.

Cears finished the evening with 27 assists and two service aces. Senior outside hitter Ashlee Connors (Springfield, Mass.) wasn't far behind Vallee with nine kills and four digs finishing with a .333 attack percentage. Vallee also pitched in four digs, three service aces and two blocks.

Fitchburg State was led by junior outside hitter Katherine Carroll (Shrewsbury, Mass.) with 10 kills hitting .571 for the four sets. Junior outside hitter Annie Woolley (Malden, Mass.) chipped in 8 kills. Freshman setter Perry Joubert (Seekonk, Mass.) topped her team with 13 assists.

Defensively, junior middle hitter Taylor Heinbokel (Agawam, Mass.) and freshman outside hitter Cameille Keith (Pawtucket, R.I.) combined for ten digs.

Bay Path is now 7-9 on the season, while Fitchburg State falls to 1-14 overall. The Wildcats are back in action Saturday, October 14th at noon facing local NECC rival Elms College.
