Bay Path runs Elms College Blazer Invitational

University of New England Wins Both Men's and Women's Cross Country Blazer Invitationals

CHICOPEE, Mass. – The Elms College women's cross country team placed seventh overall and the University of New England won both the men's and women's races at the 2013 Blazer Cross CountryInvitational on Saturday afternoon at Chicopee Memorial State Park.

UNE's men's team posted a team score of 36 points to finish first overall, followed by Westfield State University (47), Connecticut College (75), Trinity College (80), Massachusetts Maritime Academy (155), Rhode Island College (169), Western New England University (181), Regis College (239), Mitchell College(244), Framingham State University (279), Newbury College (303) and Mount Ida College (344).

Westfield State's Tim Shea won the men's 8-kilometer race with a time of 27:20, followed by Trinity'sPatrick Hoagland (27:45) and UNE's Cameron Vallie (28:17).

Elms' sophomore men's runner Adam Kuzdzal (Chicopee, Mass.) placed 68th overall with a time of 35:09 and freshman Joseph Sirois (South Easton, Mass.) clocked a time of 40:56.

Tevin Cintron of Westfield State won the men's 8-kilometer sub-varsity race with a time of 28:56 and the Owls won the team race with a combined score of 21. UNE (38), Western New England (82) and Mass. Maritime (109) rounded out the four scoring teams in the event.

UNE placed first on the women's side with an overall score of 23 points, followed by Trinity (57), Westfield State (69), Connecticut College (114), Rhode Island College (138), Western New England (243), Elms(259), Curry College (263), Regis (266), Wheelock College (283), Anna Maria College (323), Mass. Maritime (331), MCLA (333), Framingham State (343), Eastern Nazarene (367), Bay Path College (439), Mount Ida (459) and Newbury (560).

The Nor'Easters had the top three finishers including Brittney Sorbello who clocked a winning time of19:57Tianna Thomas (20:20) and Natalie Hardman (20:29) rounded the top three runners in the women's 5-kilometer race.

Blazers' senior Devon DeGrazia (Westport, Mass.) finished 30th overall finished with a 22:15 which is fourth-best on the Elms course by an Elms runner. Junior Rachel Lehouillier (Belchertown, Mass.)was the next to cross the line in a time of 23:20, followed by freshman Samantha White (Tolland, Mass.) (23:35), junior Shirley Ryan (Brimfield, Mass.) (24:59), senior Kerry Ashe (Springfield, Mass.)(26:04), senior Gabrielle Calvanese (Agawam, Mass.) (26:12), and sophomore Emma Bernard (Springfield, Mass.) (26:30).

Westfield State won the women's 5-kilometer sub-varsity race led by Andrea Hicks who notched a time of 21:34 as the Owls took four of the top five spots in the race and finished with 19 points. UNE placed second with 42 points and Connecticut College came in third with 76 points.

Elms junior Emily Taylor (Ludlow, Mass.) notched a time of 28:04, followed by senior Stephanie Konstantinidis (Holyoke, Mass.) with a 33:29 and junior Maddie Boehm (Sutton, Mass.) with a mark of 33:32.

Elms is back in action on Saturday, October 5 at the Keene State College Invitational beginning at 11:00 a.m.
