"Wildcats" complete successful season with 5th place team finish at NECC Championships

Westfield, Mass.-

Bay Path University came away with a 5th place finish in the 2018 NECC Women's Cross-Country Championships held at Stanley Park, Westfield, Mass. on Sunday, October 28, 2018. The "Wildcats' were led by 1st year runner Briana Serrao (Chicopee, Mass.) who was the top Bay Path runner finishing in 3rd place overall with a time of 22:11. The remaining "Wildcats" were Megan Bachand (Granby, Mass.) 24:03 in 15th place, Megan McKenna (Bennington, VT) in 26th place with a time of 25:59, Kamryn McCorison (Southwick, Mass.) finishing in 30th place with a time of 27:18, then Haleigh Bassett in 34th place at 29:36 and Anna Austin finished next at 39:38 in 41st place. The team completed its most successful season in over 4 years under new head coach, Rick Doiron.

Briana Serrao was named to the NECC 1st Team All-Conference squad for her 3rd place finish, while teammate Megan McKenna was selected as a member of the NECC Del Malloy Sportsmanship Team.

NECC Conference Story

WESTFIELD, Mass. – The Elms College women took home New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) cross country titles on Sunday at the championship race at Stanley Park in Westfield, Mass.

Four Blazer women finished in the top 12 of the 40-woman race to lead Elms to the championship. Tyana Medina (Springfield, Mass.) led the Elms pack with a fourth-place individual finish, running the 5k course in 22:14. Emily Guillerault (East Granby, Conn.) took sixth in 22:26, Keara Moulton(Ashburnham, Mass.) finished 10th in 23:12 and Julia Trezza (Wilbraham, Mass.) took 12th in 23:23. First-year coach Jill Bigos earned NECC Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year recognition for her efforts.

Lesley finished second in the women's team standings with three runners in the top 10. Nicole Footer (Lewiston, Maine) took second for the Lynx in 21:34 while Anne Cooper (Harvard, Mass.) finished fifth in 22:17 and Kayla Ranere (Danbury, Conn.) finished seventh in 22:44.

Newbury took third, led by an eighth-place performance from Averie Greeley (Ledyard, Conn.) who ran in 22:51. The nighthawks were followed by Eastern Nazarene, which boasted the NECC Women's Cross Country Runner of the Year Rodelina Kingsley (Lawrence, Mass.), who won the women's race in 21:10. Kingsley also claimed Rookie of the Year honors among NECC women.

Bay Path finished fifth, highlighted by a third-place individual finish from Briana Serrao (Chicopee, Mass.), followed by Mitchell and Dean.
