Wildcats take a pair of NECC games in softball action
LONGMEADOW, Mass.- Bay Path’s senior Jess Nizinski (West Springfield, Mass.) led the way for the Wildcats’ NECC doubleheader sweep of the Mountaineers of Southern Vermont College. Nizinski shut-down the Mountaineers 3-2 in the opener striking out 7 and scattering 8 hits and closed out the day with only allowing one hit and one run in 2nd game.
In game 1 Bay Path College scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 7th to earn an exciting come from behind victory. Senior Sarah Gates (Crown Point, Ind.) had a 2 run double to tie the game and came home for the game winner on an infield hit by Sarah Safron, (Easthampton, MA). Kayla Whitman hit a homerun for the Mountaineers. Gabrielle Remillard pitched a great game giving up 8 hits and 3 runs.eight runs, only one of which was earned.
In game 2, Bay Path won 9-1 on the hitting of Gates who was 3-4 with 3 rbi's and Sam Gunseth, who chipped in with 3 hits. Nizinski allowed one run in the first before settling down to win her 10 game of the season. Talan Baron pitched well for the Mountaineers to keep her team in the game for 5 innings before the Wildcats pushed across 4 run to take a 6-1 lead.
Bay Path goes on the road next at Daniel Webster College in a
key NECC doubleheader matchup on Sunday, April 25 beginning at 1
pm. Southern Vermont College hosts Becker College on April
25, 2010 in another key matchup in the NECC, game time is 1 pm.
