WILDCATS TRICK FALCONS IN APRIL FOOLS DOUBLEHEADER

LONGMEADOW, Mass.—The Bay Path’s of Wildcats were made no fools today as they swept the Falcons of Albertus Magnus 8-2 in the opener and 13-3 in the nightcap. Senior infielder Sam Gunseth (Swansey, N.H.) and freshman pitcher/outfielder Ashley Provost (Ludlow, Mass.) led the Wildcats with Gunseth batting .750 in game one and Provost averaging .500 for the day.

Bay Path Head Coach Steve Smith took advantage of some early scoring by the Wildcats and was able to play his entire roster. All 16 players saw time on the field or at bat today.

In the opener, Gunseth provided three doubles down the left line to score some runs finishing her day at three-for-four with one run. She missed the nightcap due to class commitments. Two other Wildcats had multiple hits in game one including senior shortstop/outfielder Sarah Gates (Crown Point, Ind.) and sophomore catcher Emily Evans (Westford, Mass.). Both Gates and Evans finished with two runs, two hits and one RBI apiece. Evans also launched her first collegiate homerun over the left field fence.

Only three Falcons produced hits for the game. Sophomore pitcher Catherine Sieff (North Haven, Conn.) suffered the loss going 6.0 innings giving up eight runs, only four earned on nine hits. She struck out two and walked two batters. Sieff was also one of the three to tally a hit for the game.

Provost (4-2) notched the win allowing only one hit on one unearned run. She fanned seven and walked two batters for her 6.0 innings of work. Junior utility Katie Begin (Weare, N.H.) provided a break in the fifth facing seven batters. She allowed one run on two hits while walking two batters.

In the second game, Bay Path was able to mercy run rule the Falcons with a final score of 13-3. Luckily for them it was finished in five due to light concerns.

Five separate Wildcats each had hits. Provost added three RBI and two runs. Sophomore infielder Maeghan Whitcomb (Lyndon, Vt.) led the way with four RBI. Evans also had a hit, while sophomore catcher Kellie Lastowksi (Turners Falls, Mass.) went 1-for-1 with one run and one RBI. Gates had two runs. Sophomore outfielder Vanessa Chaplin(Attleboro, Mass.), freshman outfielder Marissa Stone (Londonderry, N.H.)and senior pitcher Jess Nizinski (West Springfield, Mass.)had multiple runs combining for seven total.

Nizinski (5-5) notched the victory allowing three runs on nine hits. She fanned five and walked only two for her five innings of work.

Albertus Magnus’ hurler Jeslyn Santos (New York, New York) suffered the loss allowing 13 runs off of only five hits. She walked fourteen Wildcats and struck-out two for 32 batters face.

Seiff put up big numbers for the Falcons going a perfect three-for three with one run.

Bay Path is now 9-7 overall, while Albertus Magnus falls to 0-12 on the season. Bay Path will open up New England Collegiate Conference play on Tuesday April, 6^th at 3:30 p.m. at home.
