Pre-Season Softball Outlook

Bay Path College would like to announce the start practices for the spring softball season on
February 6, 2012. The "Wildcats " will begin action on February 22 in a doubleheader vs. Lyndon State College, VT at the Adirondack Sports Complex. The team then departs for its annual spring break trip to Myrtle Beach, SC from March 10-17.  The team is under the direction of head coach, Steve Smith.

Games are played at the South Campus/Farmlea Road Athletic Fields.

The team is a member of the NCAA Division III. It participates in the New England Collegiate
Conference (NECC).

The "Wildcats", are expected to compete for the New England Collegiate Conference
championships, held May 4 & 5, 2012. They seek to improve on a 12-17 record (NECC 5-11) and 7th place finish during the 2010-11 season.

The 2011-12 "Wildcats" will feature a mix of returners and young players. Their team goal is
to improve on the past season and make the NECC tournament. The team returns three starters selected as 2011All-NECC Honorable Mention and a 2010 1st Team All-NECC teamer. Coach Smith states "this is the deepest and most talented group that we have had in the past 10 years." I am looking forward to watching them grow as a team and play to the best of our abilities."

Student-athletes expected to provide experience and leadership include the following:

Senior captains, Vanessa Chaplin, Attleboro, MA, (Attleboro High School) 16 games started, and Emily Evans, Westford, MA (Westford Academy)(.317 ba) return for their senior year. Each has played various positions the past 3 years and will contribute again to the success of the team. They both are determined to get the team back into the NECC tournament.

Captain, Keelin Dougherty, from Northfield, NH, (Bishop Brady), returns for her sophmore year. She received All-NECC Honorable mention. Keelin was 8-8 pitching with 92 k's in 108 innings. She also hit .302 and led the team in runs (37), walks (25) and stolen bases (17).She has a great attitude, desire to improve and ambition to make her team better.
