Wildcats Climb Past Mountaineers Winning first two Conference Games

LONGMEADOW, Mass.- The Wildcats hosted the Southern Vermont Mountaineers in a home New England Collegiate (NECC) conference match for Southern Vermont due to poor field conditions. Bay Path who was the visitor for both matches managed to shorten the day winning both games of the double header 10-1 and 10-2 both in five innings due to the mercy rule.  The Wildcats are now 6-7 on the season and 2-0 in the NECC, while Southern Vermont drops to 0-4 overall and 0-2 in conference play.

Junior shortstop Lauren Vallee (Bristol, Conn.) led the way in the opener going 3-for-4 with three RBI's, three runs including a double and a triple. Freshman utility Kiley Bissell (Westhampton, Mass.) also had three RBI including two runs and two hits. Two other players had two hit games including freshman Lilly West(Goshen, Mass.) and sophomore Katrina Peck (Newington, Conn.).

Southern Vermont's sophomore shortstop Lizzy Bench (St. Petersburg, Fla.) broke up the shut-out with a homerun in the bottom of the fourth.

Sophomore pitcher Madison Goodhart (Pawtucket, R.I.) tossed five innings giving up only one hit with five strikeouts for the win. The Mountaineers junior hurler Shea Wilson (Mesa, Ariz.) suffered the loss giving up ten runs on 13 hits, she walked five and struck out three batters.

In game two, West went 3-for-3 while sophomore, centerfielder Keyla Oliveras(Springfield, Mass.) had  a stellar game going 2-for-3 with three RBI's and two runs including  a triple. Vallee also went 2-for-3 and added another double with one RBI and two runs.  Freshman infielder Taylor Feraco (Oxford, Mass.) had the Wildcats other double for the nightcap. Feraco like Vallee went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Goodhart rounded out the multiple hits finishing with two hits, one run and one RBI.

Bench again scored for Southern Vermont with their two lone runs. Freshman outfielder Sarah Billow (South Glens Falls, N.Y.) finished 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Freshman Felicia Gaillardetz (Londonderry, N.H.) tossed the victory giving up only two runs on three hits (only one earned run), she fanned nine batters while only walking three for her five innings of work. Wilson again suffered the loss for the Mountaineers. She gave up ten runs on 12 hits (only eight earned runs) while fanning and walking four a piece.

Next up for Bay Path is a Wednesday doubleheader vs Newbury College and Southern Vermont travels to Skidmore College on Monday.
