Revere, Mass. - In a pulsating matchup held on May 3, 2025, at Ardagna Field, Bay Path University staged a remarkable comeback to secure a 10-9 victory over Lesley University in extra innings. The tightly contested softball game kept fans on the edge of their seats, ultimately extending to eight innings of intense play.
Lesley University came out swinging, establishing a commanding early lead. In the first inning, a series of strategic plays and a few errors by Bay Path saw Lesley score five runs. I. Moscoso and S. Thomas initiated the scoring with consecutive RBIs, while L. John earned an RBI walk. The second inning saw Lesley capitalize further on Bay Path's defensive lapses, extending their lead to 8-0.
Bay Path, however, was not deterred. The team's comeback began in the fourth inning when Jailyn Harrigan delivered a crucial double, bringing in two runs. Attacking again in the fifth inning, Bay Path added another two runs, closing the gap to 8-4, with contributions from Sophie Verrengia and Jenna Boudreau.
The sixth inning proved pivotal for Bay Path. Madisyn Vera and Madison Tessmer set the stage with timely hits, followed by a spectacular triple by Madison Sunderland that drove in three runs. Verrengia capped off the inning with a triple of her own, giving Bay Path their first lead at 9-8.
Lesley managed to level the score at 9-9 in the bottom of the sixth, thanks to a single from J. O'Neill. However, Bay Path's determination shone through in the eighth inning. Madison Tessmer emerged as the hero with a clutch RBI single that brought Caroline Austin home, solidifying the 10-9 victory.
Bay Path's pitcher, Madison Sunderland, played a crucial role in relief, holding Lesley to just one run over the final three innings, while Lesley's E. Hodgkins, despite a strong start, struggled with control, walking eight batters over eight innings.
The game, attended by 50 spectators, lasted two hours and 37 minutes, showcasing the resilience and determination of both teams. The victory improved Bay Path's record to 19-15, while Lesley fell to 6-25 in what was a memorable encounter in college softball.
Game Two:
**Bay Path Dominates Lesley with a 10-2 Victory**
In an impressive display of skill and teamwork, Bay Path triumphed over Lesley with a decisive 10-2 win in their second game of the doubleheader.
The game began with Lesley taking an early lead as L. Martin doubled, bringing home K. Sorensen for the initial run. However, Bay Path quickly countered in the bottom of the first inning. A combination of opportunistic base running and a wild pitch allowed Madison Tessmer to score, and Ansley Morrison's ground ball led to additional runs from Madison Sunderland and Madisyn Vera, setting the score at 3-1 in favor of Bay Path.
Despite Lesley's K. Sorensen capitalizing on an error in the third inning to narrow the gap to 3-2, Bay Path surged ahead in the fourth inning. With the bases loaded, Morrison hit a crucial double, driving in three runs and extending Bay Path's lead to 7-2. The home team continued their offensive momentum in the fifth inning, adding two more runs with contributions from Tessmer and Jailyn Harrigan.
Bay Path's pitcher, Kaitlyn Kerstetter, delivered a strong performance, allowing only six hits and two runs over five innings, while striking out two. Lesley's pitchers, E. Hodgkins and I. Moscoso, faced challenges against Bay Path's disciplined batting lineup, conceding a combined total of 10 runs.
A standout performance from Morrison, who recorded four RBIs, and Harrigan, who went 3-for-3, highlighted Bay Path's offensive prowess. Defensively, Bay Path's combined efforts kept Lesley at bay, despite committing three errors.
