Bay Path Scores Season High Goals in Conference Play against Elms

CHICOPEE, Mass. – Blazers post a 23-6 victory over Bay Path College in Tuesday evening's New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) women's lacrosse game at Leary Field.

With the win, Elms has now won three straight games to improve to 5-6 overall, 2-1 in conference action. Bay Path falls to 0-3 on the season, 0-3 in NECC action.

Elms used 15 first half strikes including all four of McDonough's goals and three from Mazza to help notch a 15-5 lead at intermission. Grabowski, junior midfielder Brianna Lyons (Canton, Mass.) and freshman attacker Ashley Cava (Wilbraham, Mass.) added two goals, while senior midfielder Cathy Duquette (Naples, Maine) and sophomore defender Kate Borisova (Chicopee, Mass.) netted one goal each.

After Elms took the lead on McDonough's first goal just 23 seconds into play, Shelby Regan (Longmeadow, Mass.) answered with a goal to even the game at 1-1 at the 28:19 mark. 

The Blazers then scored seven straight to post an 8-1 advantage before the Wildcats rallied with a 4-1 run on the strength of three goals from Jillian O'Melia (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and one from Megan Squadrito (Ellington, Conn.) to set the score at 9-5 with 17:07 remaining in the period. 

Elms finished the half scoring seven unanswered to stake its 10-goal halftime advantage.

Elms' sophomore goalkeeper Alysha Parsons (Newington, Conn.) turned away three shots in each half and now has 104 saves for the season and improves to 4-6 overall.

The Blazers continued to pull away, finding the back of the net six straight times including three markers from Mazza, two from Grabowski and one goal from senior defender Catherine Leonard (Chicopee, Mass.) who scored her first collegiate-career goal with 14:59 remaining in the contest.

O'Melia added her last goal with 3:39 to play, while Duquette scored her second of the game with 2:27 on the clock. Lyons then scored as time expired to set the final score at 23-6.


Bay Path net-minder Kelley Wilbur (West Hartford, Conn.) finished with 12 saves in the losing effort.

Bay Path returns to league play on Saturday, April 20 at Wheelock College at 12:00 p.m. in Boston, Mass.
