Falcons Soar Past Wildcats in Home Opener

LONGMEADOW, Mass.—The Wildcats fell 8-0 in their 2013 home opener to NCAA Division III regional opponent the Falcons of Albertus Magnus.  Freshman keeper Alma Rizvani (Prospect, Conn.) managed  held the Falcons to only two goals in the first half. Rizvani finished with seven saves and only three goals against facing 20 shots ten of which were on goal.

The Falcons struck at 18:55 in the first half when senior midfielder Shelly Mirmina (Milford, Conn.) scored off a cross by senior midfielder Amanda Roke (Cheshire, Conn.). This would eventually be the game winning goal. Roke would score the second goal of the half at 36:34 with an assist by sophomore forward Acacia Nelson (Bridgeport, Conn.).

The Falcons would return in the second half scoring six more insurance goals. Roke would lead her team with another goal finishing with five points.

Coming off the bench senior forward Gabrielle Roberts (Plymouth, Conn.) would notch the third goal off a pass inside by another reservist sophomore defender Lauren Piroscofo (Naugatuck, Conn.). Roke would tally the fourth goal 59:09 under Bay Path's second goalie freshman Shianne Silvia (Warwick, R.I.).Senior midfielder Meghan Loughman (Trumbull, Conn.) had the assist.

In the 63rd minute freshman midfielder Danielle Polvan (East Haven, Conn.) netted the fifth goal.  Loughman would net the sixth goal in the 70th minute with freshman midfielder Liz Nagy (Meriden, Conn.) notching the assist.

Bad Luck struck for the Wildcats when the backline added to the Falcons tally for an own goal. Sophomore defender Renea Johnson (Bridgeport, Conn.) would finish up the scoring nailing a penalty kick after being taken out in the box by sophomore defender Brittany Schafer (Brooklyn, N.Y).

Bay Path falls to 1-2 on the season, while Albertus Magnus is now 2-1 on the year.
