Wildcats Fall 2-0 to Local NECC Rival Elms

LONGMEADOW, Mass. – The Blazers of Elms College proved too much for the Wildcats of Bay Path falling 2-0 today in the New England Collegiate Conference's (NECC) women' soccer match-up at Ryan Field. Senior midfielder Christina Goodchild (East Longmeadow, Mass.) would score the first and eventual game winner off a corner kick in the 28th minute of play.


The Wildcats freshman goalkeeper Alma Rizvani (Prospect, N.Y.) faced 15 shots from the Blazers finishing with two saves and two goals against for her 90 minutes of play.

 

Senior defender Ally Witaszek (Feeding Hills, Mass.) launched the corner kick at 27:29 finding the foot of Goodchild to net the first goal.

 

About five minutes later in the 34th minute of play sophomore Michelle Rossignol (Manchester, Mass.) netted the second and final goal off a cross from freshman forward Rachel Connell (Easthampton, Mass.).

 

Elms keepers sophomore Alexa Rinaudo (Bellmore, N.Y.) and junior reservist Erika Aponte (Palmer, Mass.) combined for the shut-out. They faced eight shots Rinaudo had two saves while Aponte tallied one for the match.

 

With the win, Elms improves to 6-7-1 overall, 4-2-1 in NECC action, while Bay Path moves to 6-6-1 overall, 3-2-1 in conference play.
