Ruiz Tallies Twice in 6-2 Victory for Bay Path

LONGMEADOW, MASS.-  Sophomore forward Jai Ruiz (Hadley, Mass.) scored twice leading the Wildcats to their first victory of 2016. Bay Path defeated the City College of New York 6-2 this afternoon at Ryan Field.  First year head coach Jamey Mercer picked up his first collegiate victory.

 

Senior starting goalkeeper Alma Rizvani (Prospect, Conn.) and freshman Caitlyn Esposito (East Haven, Conn.) shared the win. Rizvani finished with seven saves and one goal against, while Esposito had five saves and one goal against.

CCNY scored first at 10:10 on the clock when sophomore forward Marissa Olsen (Huntington Station, N.Y.) managed to clip the post in the right spot for it to knock in for the first goal. Freshman midfielder Dina Sayd (Brooklyn, N.Y.) had the assist.

The Wildcats answered their goal ten minutes later when senior forward Dallas Jackson (Springfield, Mass.) shot the ball at 21:08 with a CCNY defender attempting to clear ball but managed to misfire the block. Fellow senior forward Kristen Lynch (Belchertown, Mass.) had the assist.

With the score knotted the Feliciano sisters pulled off a well executed corner kick converting the third goal of the game putting Bay Path up 2-1. Freshman defender Joanna Feliciano (Springfield, Mass.) chipped in the goal off her sophomore sister's Olivia Feliciano (Springfield, Mass.) corner kick.

Ruiz added and insurance goal at 33:50on the clock dribbling it down solo and finding the back of the net, putting Bay Path up 3-1 at the half.

Mercer made some field changes and managed to give his bench some playing time as well as both keepers. Lynch scored the fifth goal on a free kick bending it past the four person Beaver wall at 53:01.

The Beavers managed to score at 65:25 when freshman Marissa Scotto (Belle Harbor, N.Y.) shot it past Esposito. The score remained 4-2, until 80:46 on the clock when Ruiz again scored on a run.

Elena Helming would also tally the final goal off a cross from Jackson.

Freshman goalkeeper Catherine Langkamp (Bronx, N.Y.) suffered the loss with 14 saves and six goals against facing 30 shots, 20 on goal.

Bay Path is now 1-1 on the season, CCNY is also 1-1 on the year. Bay Path will be back in action on next Saturday, September 10th at Pine Manor for a noon start.
