Wildcats Take First NECC Match 1-0

LONGMEADOW, MASS.-  Sophomore forward Jailinne Ruiz (Hadley, Mass.) scored at 2:03 off a rebounded shot to earn Bay Path's first New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) victory of the season over the Nighthawks of Newbury College in women's soccer with the start of conference play today at Ryan Field. Bay Path (3-1, 1-0) is now on a three game winning streak, while Newbury is 1-5 on the season and 0-1 in NECC play.

Both teams rallied for the next 87 minutes of play unable to get shots past the keepers. Bay Path's freshman goalkeeper Caitlyn Esposito (East Haven, Conn.) earned her second collegiate shut-out between the sticks.  Esposito faced twelve shots, seven on goal for seven saves.  

Newbury's keepers split time in the net with starting keeper freshman Faith Cordes (Newburgh, N.Y.) suffering the loss. She faced four shots with three saves. Second half keeper sophomore Noelle Sass (Randolph, Mass.) had one save for her 45 minutes in the net.

Ruiz finished with six shots, while senior midfielder Kristen Lynch (Belchertown, Mass.) had four shots for the contest. Newbury's sophomore forward Jessica Bergeron (Salem, N.H.) finished with five shots.

Bay Path will be on the road next Wednesday, September 21st at Dean College for a 4:00 p.m. start. Newbury will host Pine Manor on the same date at a 3:30 p.m. start.
