Bayreuther Led the Wildcats to a 3-1 Victory over the BlueJays

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. –  Sophomore outside hitter/Libero Kacie Bayreuther (East Lyme, Conn.) led the attack for the Wildcats en route to a 3-1 victory of St. Joseph of Connecticut. Bayreuther finished with a double double tallying 10 kills and 10 digs. The first three sets were very competitive. Bay Path took the first, 29-27 before the Blue Jays took the second, 25-16. Bay Path took the lead by winning the pivotal third set 26-24 and closed out the match, 25-14 in the fourth.

Defensively, the Wildcats were led by freshman defensive specialist Mikala Smith ( Esperance, N.Y.) with a match high 14 digs.  Bay Path used their defensive skills to their advantage tallying 51 digs to host Blue Jays 44 for the match. Also tallying double figures in digs was New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Rookie of the Week freshman outside hitter Katelynn Hannan (Troy, N.Y.) with ten.

Hannan also totaled eight kills and two service aces.  Freshman middle hitter Elizabeth Haylette (Terryville, Conn.) was second in kills for the match with nine coming off the bench. Bringing the offensive effort together for the Wildcats was senior setter Ashley Provost (Ludlow, Mass.) with 23 assists. Provost also had nine digs and three service aces.

BlueJays' Ciara Perez (Manchester, Conn.) had ten kills, five aces and eight digs, while Amanda Dondero (Mastic, N.Y.) and Elizabeth Tuazon (Mystic. Conn.) led the defensive effort for the Blue Jays with ten digs apiece. Samantha Edwon (Beacon Falls, Conn.) made four solo blocks.

Bay Path improved to 2-0 and Saint Joseph is now 1-3. Bay Path will be back in action Saturday, September 8th in Vermont playing a tri-match against Castleton and Green Mountain beginning at 1:00 p.m.
