Wildcats fall to Spartans in a 3-0 Volleyball Match

EAST LONGMEADOW, Mass. – Sophomore Lydia Clifford (Coventry, R.I.) topped Bay Path with six kills and one block, but it was not enough as the Wildcats fell to visiting Castleton University 3-0 in non-conference volleyball action Saturday afternoon.  Game scores were 25-9, 25-15 and 25-14.

The victorious Spartans were led by junior Shannon Manchester (West Hartford, Conn.), who collected a match-high 10 kills against just one attack error, good for a stellar .600 attack percentage. She added a pair of blocks.

Freshman Marissa Courchesne (Belchertown, Mass.) added three kills and five digs in a solid effort for Bay Path.  Freshman Khyarah Gaston-Feliciano (Holyoke, Mass.) topped the Wildcats with eight assists, while freshman Lisa Sikop (Easthampton, Mass.) equaled the match-high with six digs. Freshman Kiana Ortiz (Springfield, Mass.) added five digs.

For Castleton, sophomore Madison Hamelink (Rochester, N.Y.) and freshman Lizzie Goodrich (Essex Junction, Vt.) chipped in five kills apiece. Junior Bre MacDuff (Hudson Falls, N.Y.) registered match-highs with 18 assists and nine service aces to go with a team-best six digs.

As a team, Castleton posted 20 service aces and seven total blocks, while Bay Path claimed a 26-22 edge in digs.  

Both teams return to the court with non-conference matchups on Tuesday. Bay Path (0-5) will travel to Anna Maria for a 7:00 p.m. affair in Paxton, Mass., while Castleton (3-3) will host Northern Vermont-Johnson with the first serve slated for 6:00 p.m.
