Bay Path Wins Program First Against NECC Rival Elms

Gates and Daly lead the way for the Wildcats

CHICOPEE, Mass. –Two second half goals paced Bay Path College to a 2-0 victory over the Blazers in Saturday afternoon's New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) field hockey game at Leary Field. This victory is Bay Path's first ever in their short three year program history.

With the loss Elms falls to 0-8 on the season, 0-2 in NECC play, while Bay Path earns its first victory of the season and improves to 1-4 overall, 1-1 in the conference.

Bay Path scored its first goal in the seventh minute of the second half when Sarah Gates (Crown Point, Ind.) drilled the ball into the back of net off a rebounded shot.

The Wildcats maintained a one-goal advantage until Jackie Daly (Plympton, Mass.) netted a pass from Elizabeth Barclay (Auburn, Maine) in the 67th minute to give Bay Path a 2-0 cushion with 3:10 to play.

Wildcats' senior keeper Kim Barbato (Saylorsburg, Penn.) earned her first collegiate shut-out facing five shots with three saves.

Elms sophomore goalkeeper Alexandra Bonavita (Agawam, Mass.) made eight saves between the pipes on the day, while freshman Brianna Lyons (canton, Mass.) and sophomore Rachel Butt (Agawam, Mass.) each tallied two shots on goal. Elms College senior forward Andrea Ramsdell (Gardner, Mass.) fire three shots.

Daly launched six shots to pace the Wildcats' offense while senior Jessica Priestly's (Middleboro, Mass.) added four shots in the winning effort.

Bay Path is back in action on Wednesday, October 6th when they host another NECC foe Wheelock at 4:00 p.m. match.
