Flagg Breaks Up Wheaton's Shut-out in Field Hockey

REHOBOTH, MA- Freshman Jenna Rocha (Rehoboth, MA/Dighton-Rehoboth Regional) scored twice in the first 3:38 in her hometown to lead the Wheaton College field hockey team to an 11-1 victory over non-conference foe Bay Path College on Sunday in the team's home opener at Faxon Field.

Wheaton moves to 4-2 on the year, while Bay Path dropped to 0-2.

Ten different Lyons recorded at least one point, including eight different goal scorers.  Senior Margaux Bolte (Belmont, MA/Belmont) and junior Tierney Richardson (North Attleboro, MA/North Attleboro) joined Rocha with two goals apiece.  Both players posted a tally in each half, with Bolte handing out one assist to tie Rocha with a game-high five points.

Freshman Emily Chick (Bangor, ME/Bangor) scored once and also collected her first career assist in the opening half.  Juniors Carmela Luzi (Southbury, CT/Pomperaug Regional) and Aliza Underhill (Corinth, ME/Central) and sophomore Azza Reineman (Manchester, MA/Pomfret School) all notched goals for the second straight game.  Senior Julia Atwood (Concord, MA/Brooks School) recorded the final goal of the first half, as the Lyons took an 8-1 advantage into the intermission.

Wheaton's three second-half goals by Bolte, Richardson and Underhill all came on penalty corners.  The Lyons finished the contest holding advantages of 21-2 in corners and 58-4 in shots.  Freshman goalie Ellie Massengill (Amherst, MA/Amherst Regional) picked up two saves to improve to 2-1.

Bay Path sophomore Deanna Flagg (Enfield, CT/Enfield) cut Wheaton's advantage to 4-1 in scoring off a corner in the 20th minute, while senior goalie Kim Barbato (Saylorsburg, PA/Pleasant Valley) recorded 20 saves.
