Bay Path splits at Mass Maritime Academy

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Sophomore Grace Stafford (West Yarmouth, Mass.) registered 22 kills and eight digs to lead Curry to a pair of a 3-0 non-league college volleyball victories over Massachusetts Maritime and Bay Path in tri-match action played Saturday afternoon at the Clean Harbors Athletic Center.  In the final match of the day, junior Lauren Vallee (Bristol, Conn.) recorded 21 kills, 11 digs and four solo blocks to pace Bay Path to a 3-2 triumph over the host Buccaneers.

 

Stafford notched in the Colonels' (2-1) opening 25-14, 25-13, 25-23 victory over Massachusetts Maritime (0-6), as Curry presented first-year Head Coach Elizabeth Morris with her inaugural program win.  Senior Nicole Grambley (North Attleboro, Mass.) added eight kills and four digs in the opening contest for the Colonels, who also received six kills from junior Nicole Rice (Woburn, Mass.).  Senior Alyssa Keeney (Coventry, Conn.) chipped in with 16 set assists, 10 digs and three kills in the first match for Curry, which also received 24 digs from junior Courtney Carroll (Fairhaven, Mass.).

Senior Charleen Klangos (Lowell, Mass.) posted 10 kills and four digs in the opening setback for the Buccaneers, who also received four kills each from senior Meaghan Brain (Hanson, Mass.) and sophomoreJennifer Roy (Attleboro, Mass.).  Senior Emma Ethier (Norton, Mass.) and freshman Michelle Sheehan(Attleboro, Mass.) combined for 16 set assists and 13 digs for the hosts, while freshman Christina Ruggeri(Bourne, Mass.) chipped in with 13 digs.
Stafford collected 11 kills and six digs in Curry's 25-24, 25-20, 25-16 victory over Bay Path (1-3), while Rice added eight kills for the winners.  Grambley and freshman Erika Costa (Seekonk, Mass.) each chipped in with six kills for the Colonels, who also received 19 set assists, six digs and three kills from Keeney as well as 11 set assists and four digs from senior Makayla Hughes (Franklin, N.H.).  Vallee posted eight kills and 11 digs in the opening setback for the Wildcats, who also received a combined nine kills from senior Paige Marshall(New Britain, Conn.) and sophomore Taylor Heinbokel (Agawam, Mass.).  Sophomore Lexi Cears (Agawam, Mass.) collected 20 set assists for Bay Path, while senior Aaliyah Gordon (Springfield, Mass.) chipped in with 11 digs.
Marshall and Heinbokel added nine kills and 12 digs each in the nightcap triumph for the Wildcats, who overcame a 17-25, 25-18, 25-19 deficit to win the fourth set 25-10 and the deciding frame by a 15-12 margin.  Junior Ashlee Connors (Springfield, Mass.) added six kills and 14 digs for Bay Path, which also received 38 set assists and nine digs from Cears to go with 14 digs from Gordon.  The victory was the first in the collegiate head coaching career of first-year Wildcat mentor Pat Annecchiarico.
Klangos and Roy each had nine kills and combined for 12 digs in the second setback for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received eight kills and 14 digs from freshman Marie Harrison (Weymouth, Mass.).  Brain chipped in with five kills for the hosts, while Sheehan recorded 15 set assists and 12 digs.  Ethier posted 15 set assists and four digs in the nightcap for the Buccaneers, who also received 23 digs from Ruggeri.
Massachusetts Maritime hosts Pine Manor in a non-league match on Tuesday evening at the Clean Harbors Athletic Center that begins at 7:00 p.m., while Curry hosts Mount Ida in a non-league outing on Tuesday evening in Milton, Mass. beginning at 6:00 p.m. 

Bay Path travels to Franklin, Mass. on Tuesday evening for a non-league clash with Dean that begins at 7:00 p.m.
