Bay Path Claims 3-1 Victory Saturday Afternoon

 

LONGMEADOW, MA - The Bay Path University volleyball team overcame a first set deficit as the Wildcats defeated Southern Maine CC on Saturday afternoon, 3-1, at the Longmeadow Adult Center.  The win was the fifth straight for Bay Path.  It was also Dig Pink Day with both teams raising funds for the Susan G. Komen Foundation for Breast Cancer Research.

 The Wildcats took the contest 18-25, 25-15, 25-18, 25-21, as Bay Path hit .147 for the match, opposed to just .025 for its opponent.

 Bay Path led the opening set 15-7, but was unable to hold off a late Seawolves charge as Southern Maine CC won the first set.  However, Bay Path was able to overcome a slow start in  the second set, going on a huge run midway through the set.  Trailing 13-9, Bay Path scored 13 straight points, including a pair of aces from Lilly Kibbe. A kill by Anastasiya Tsetsko clinched the set for Bay Path.

 The Wildcats raced out to an 11-4 lead in the third set and overcame a late Southern Maine CC charge to win the set 25-18.  The final kill coming from Isabella Melo. In the fourth set, the Seawolves led 9-7 when Bay Path scored six straight to take the 13-9 lead.  Three of the six points during the run came on service aces from Asja Kazic. Bay Path never trailed again in the set as another kill by Melo claimed the set and the match.

 Tsetsko finished with a match-high 16 kills, while Kibbe added six and Mckenzie Labier added five. Michelle Santiago dished out 15 assists and KyLee Finch had 13. As a team, Bay Path finished with 16 service aces, including five each from Kibbe and Kazic.

 Defensively, Shanayah St. Phard had 11 digs and Kibbe had nine, while Santiago added eight. Labier led Bay Path in blocking with four solo stuffs.

 Bay Path closes out its three-match homestand on Wednesday night when it hosts Fisher College at 8:00 pm at the Longmeadow Adult Center.
