Bay Path Women’s Basketball Falls to Mitchell 57-30

 

Herring, Armstead and Marshall Combine for 22 Points

HOLYOKE, Mass. – Senior Kaylee Herring (Worcester, Vt.) pumped in a team-high nine points, while freshman guard Shameria Armstead (Brenham, Texas) flirted with a double-double, recording eight points and 10 rebounds as the Bay Path University women's basketball team was defeated by Mitchell College 57-30 in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) action Tuesday evening at the Bartley Center.

Graduate forward Paige Marshall (New Britain, Conn.) also chipped in five points and five rebounds for the Wildcats.

Mitchell raced out to a quick 15-4 lead after the first quarter and the Mariners would extend their lead to 29-11 at the half.  Bay Path matched Mitchell point for point in a 10-10 third quarter, but the Mariners claimed an 18-9 advantage in the final stanza.  

Sophomore Jessica Lohneiss (West Hartford, Conn.) paced Mitchell with a game-high 10 points, while freshman teammate Dejia Santana (New Britain, Conn,) chipped eight points to go with 10 rebounds.  Junior Kate McCormack (South Kingstown, R.I.) grabbed a game-high 11 boards, while adding four points for the victors.

Bay Path shot 24.5% (13-of-53) from the field, while Mitchell fared slightly better, shooting 32.8% (20-of-61).  The visiting Mariners claimed a 57-30 advantage in rebounds.

Both teams return to conference action Saturday.  At 1:00 p.m., Bay Path (0-18 overall, 0-11 NECC) will host Lesley, while Mitchell (9-11, 8-3) will visit Wheelock at 2:00 p.m.
