Bay Path Opens Season with Losses to Northern Vermont-Lyndon

Bay Path University opened the 2022 season with a doubleheader against Northern Vermont-Lyndon on Friday.  It is the first games for the "Wildcats" in nearly 2 full years. The energy and excitement to be back on the field was at a high level for this young group of student-athletes ready to show their skills.  

Game 1 Highlights  13-5  (0-1)

Bay Path got on the scoreboard first with a walk to Daisy Guzman (Maricopa, AZ) who scored on a single by Jailyn Harrigan (East Hartford, CT) to make it 1-0, later in the inning Harrigan would score on a single by Emma Scheeren (Schaghticoke, NY) to make it 2-0.  NVU-Lyndon tallied a run in the bottom of the inning.

In the 3rd inning, Madisyn Vera (East Hartford, CT) hit her 1st career homerun in her second collegiate at-bat over the centerfield fence to increase the lead to 3-1, that would do it for the Wildcats.  In the 4th inning, Bay Path was able to score a pair of runs on a sacrifice fly to center by Taylor Suffoletto (Warwick, RI) and an RBI single by Vera to plate Kamryn McCorison (Southwick, MA) for the final runs.

Emma Scheeren started the game and completed 3 innings while Daisy Guzman finished the final 2 innings for Bay Path.

Game 2 Highlights  11-6  (0-2)

Game 2 got underway in a similar fashion as Game 1 with the "Wildcats" jumping out to a 4-0 lead after one inning. Bay Path got going with a lead-off double by Emma Scheeren who scored on two-bagger by Madi Vera, Kylie Silks (Littleton, MA) walked, Guzman followed with a walk and all the base runners came around to score on a single by Brooke Evanchak (Republic, PA) and fielding error by the centerfielder making it 4-0. 

The "Wildcats" would be held scoreless until the 4th inning when they scored twice more on RBI singles by Silks and Guzman.  

Daisy Guzman went the full five innings in the second game of the doubleheader.

Bay Path University plays next on March 13, 2022 at SUNY-Purchase with 1 pm and 3 pm starts.
