Wheelock Takes Bay Path in NECC Action

HOLYOKE, Mass.- Wheelock prevailed in the battle of the Wildcats defeatin6  Bay Path 71-42 in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) women's basketball action today. Topping all players from Wheelock was lead by senior forward Michelle Woods (Wilmington, Mass.) with 18 points. Senior guard Dallas Jackson (Springfield, Mass.) wasn't far behind leading her team with 17 points, eight rebounds and seven steals.

Wheelock took control early on taking a 19-2 lead in the first quarter, Bay Path attempting to equalize the score notching 14 points to Wheelock's 15 in the second quarter. Despite breaking the scoring drought the Maroon Wildcats never manage to break through the Gold Wildcats offense outscoring Bay Path in ever quarter.

Sophomore forward Katie Walsh (East Islip, N.Y.) patrolled the paint notching 22 rebounds for Wheelock, while adding nine points. Coming off the bench, senior guard Brianna Hochwarter (Attleboro, Mass.) chipped in 14 points going 4-for-6 from the arc. Senior guard Jaime Grzych (Columbia, Conn.) finished with 13 points.

Along with Jackson, senior guard Brenna Roy (Stafford Springs, Conn.) notched double figures for Bay Path with 12 points. Fellow senior guard Aaliyah Gordon (Springfield, Mass.) finished with five assists and five rebounds.

Wheelock College is now 9-9 on the season and 7-5 in the NECC, Bay Path falls to 2-14 overall and 1-10 in the conference. Wheelock will host Simmons College on Tuesday, January 31st at a 6:30 tip, while Bay Path travels to Mitchell College for a 5:30 p.m. start.
